Gourmet coffee Roasting Process
We roast our coffee beans on-demand, for your specific order. Here's the what, when, where, and how we do it. Plus a few random facts thrown in.
Where are the Gourmet Beans roasted?
In a pristine mountain valley, amongst the tall pines and lush meadows of Ouray, Colorado. No really, the roasting facilities are surrounded by nature, not concrete.
What makes your decaffeinated coffee so amazing?
We're caffeine junkies, and for a long time held out on offering a decaf coffee beans. Decaf is for wimps right? Well, some people need to drink decaf, and when a couple of beautiful friends requested it, we caved. Our chemical-free, Swiss-water decaffeinating process results in our gourmet decaf tasting identical to our full-blown caffeinated versions. Go ahead and try, you won't be able to tell the difference. Full flavor, subtly smoky, yet smooth, and a cup of our decaf will even let you sleep.
High Altitude - big deal or marketing weenie Creation?
Here's the deal. Our beans are roasted at over 8,000 feet over an open flame. Due to the lower pressure up here than pressure at sea level, the boiling point of water is lower. So what? Well, that means food will also burn at lower temperatures...and therefore coffee beans would too. Roasting at high altitude requires us to roast the beans at a lower temperature, for a longer period of time. This locks in the pure flavor of the specific bean, a flavor that is robust, without the bitterness commonly associated with gourmet beans. If you're looking for a French roast that's also silky-smooth, you've come to the right place.
What is on-Demand Roasting?
When we receive your order, your beans, and only your coffee beans are placed in the roaster. Once they have cooled, they are placed in bags and heat sealed. The following day, your order is shipped via UPS.
Why not roast Coffee in bulk?
We believe that your beans should arrive as fresh as possible. We do not roast beans and keep them on a rack, aging while waiting for an order. Taste the difference between our gourmet beans and those on store shelves. For optimum flavor, grind, brew and savor within 14 days after receipt. Then order more.
Will you grind Our beans?
Sorry honey - no. Grinding the beans, releases much of their flavor. Beans should only be ground into tiny particles before they're brewed. (We offer a seasonal flavored coffee. This is ground to allow the flavoring to be added properly. Yeah, we're hypocrites.)
